The official press release

As the electronic music revolution continues to weave its way into every fabric of the modern world, it is only logical that it should find deep roots in the motherland.
Africa is a continent born of the drum, and with this as an anchor, it has slowly begun to tint and wash almost every electronic music genre with its vibrant, hypnotic, pulsing rhythms.

This year the world's focus shifts to the colourful, charismatic nation of Botswana as it not only celebrates its 50 years of independence, but also the coming of age and emergence as global dance-floor contender.

As such it gives us great pride in introducing the world to the Botswana Electronic Music Festival.

Once amongst the poorest nations in the world, Botswana has since transformed itself into one of the fastest-growing economies on the planet in a very short time and alongside this, is already gaining traction as a viable and exciting party destination, with a steadily growing electronic music scene and a constant stop on internal African tour schedules.

Spearheaded and supported by some of the best sounds its close cousin South Africa has to offer, acts and fans are treated to a cross border buffet of colourful sights and sounds from traditional Tswana music and the rich sonic and visual culture of Botswana.

Carrying on from the tradition of the successful and eclectic Cape Town Electronic Music Festival cementing itself as a global player on the boutique annual festival circuit, with quality and passion for electronic music as its cornerstones, the organisers team up with Botswana government to offer a festival which takes another step in the journey on uniting the entire continent in beats, rhymes and life.

We celebrate the people and the sounds which have guided the music, from house to techno, electronica and hiphop and at the same time celebrate continued evolution of the revolutionary African Electronic Music Scene.
